The main visual elements in this political cartoon are that there is a snake that is cut into parts, and each part represents a different colony. The issue that this political cartoon is about is that the colonies are splitting apart and if a colony makes allies, it will do them good. If they do not join allies, they will suffer, or be taken over. The phrase in the cartoon, “Join, or Die” describes this. The cartoonist’s opinion on this issue is that it is recommended to join allies, but even if the colony doesn’t it is okay, because then the colony will be taken over. I know this because there is not much emotion in the cartoon, and the cartoon is very straight forward. This gives the feeling that the cartoonist isn’t bias, though he recommends that the colony should join allies. If the cartoonist wanted to be persuasive about one side, he should have made it more bias about one side.
