The main visual elements in this cartoon are that there is a family that is sitting down at the dinner table, and the family seems very bored. The issue this cartoon is about is the issue of how technology is taking over our words. It is showing how the son doesn’t want to talk about his day, and instead, he types it up and posts it on his blog. The cartoonist’s opinion on this issue is that it is bad that technology is being used so much, that a person wants to type something up, rather than talking. The evidence on the cartoonist’s opinion is that the ‘tell’ in the quote is underlined, and that shows that the ‘tell’ is emphasized. This cartoon is ironic, because it shows that technology is bad, yet we are using so much technology in this humanities class. Some other techniques the cartoonist could use to make this cartoon more persuasive, is to exaggerate how much technology is being used. He/she could do this by showing that a robot is feeding the son, instead of the son feeding himself.
