The novel The Forty-Third War takes place in a country in Central America. I know this because the language that is spoken in the novel is Spanish.(Moeri 36) To be more specific, the novel takes place in Guatemala. I know this because Guatemala contains many tropical areas, and part of the novel takes place in a tropical jungle. Plus, there are a few volcanoes in Guatemala, and the novel shows that there are volcanoes there too.(Guatemala) Lastly, the story of Joaquin in the novel shows that he traveled through Mexico, and on the way back, he stopped at Stockton, a city in California. (Stockton) For all of this to be true, the novel has to take place in Guatemala.
Louise Moeri does not tell the reader about where the novel takes place because child soldiers are all over the world.

Avi I do not agree with you veiw, I think that it is in El Salvador. El Salvador had a civil war and its main religion is Catholic. I dont see why if Jaoquin traveled to the USA and if he stopped in Stockton would have anything to do with the fact that it is set in Guetemala. The climate is the same as it is in Guetamala as in El Salvador for the most part. But a good post still.
